Woman in Butter Flex black wide leg jeans with folded bottom

Should you size up or down in stretch jeans?

Sizing · 3 min read

Between two sizes? With stretch jeans the answer isn't always the same. Here is how to choose, in three steps.

step 1: measure.

1Waist: around the narrowest part of your waist, where the jeans will sit.
2Hips: around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
3Inseam: from the crotch seam to the hem of a pair you love.

step 2: check the product.

Every product page has a size chart and, where it matters, a size note like runs small, size up. That note is based on real returns, so trust it over general rules.

step 3: decide.

size up if

Your hips are at the top of the range, the style runs small, or you like a relaxed fit.

stay true if

Your waist and hips both fall in one size and you want a snug, sculpted fit.

size down if

The product says it runs big, or you're between sizes in super stretch and love a close fit.

Do stretch jeans run small?

It depends on the style. Each product page shows a size note when a style runs small or big.

Should stretch jeans feel tight when new?

Snug, yes. Painful, no. They should feel close at the waist and comfortable when you sit.

What if I'm between sizes?

Follow the size note on the product. If there isn't one, size up for comfort or stay true for a closer fit.
